Yes, yes, pull out the "not concerned about currently getting hammered routine, cuz I'm a long term investor" stuff...losing money is just that...short term losses are very real for folks who are on margin or who have a need for the cash now...and even for folks with a longer time horizon, we are talking about money, your money, not play money, and not theoretical money and we are not talking about the need to think long-term and to ignore whatever happens short-term, because being down a bunch transcends time. Massive losses transcend time and these sorts of losses are not necessarily recouped in time.

In prior years, folks got caught up in the notion of buy 'em, hold 'em, love 'em and forget about 'em. What many question is whether that philosophy still works, or have the losses obliterated that notion? And, yes, I know, if you got in at the beginning, down 40% doesn't mean anything. But very few get in at the beginning. Very many get in at the top.

Trust me, performance, be it short term or long term does matter and George W does have the power to help you here or otherwise...thusfar, he has chosen the latter strategy...history repeating itself.
