Everybody is assuming bush tax plan can get thru congress unscathed. I believe it is an opening postion. I think Bush/AG meeting a few weeks ago produced an understanding that in this hard landing environment rate cuts and moderate targeted(not gore targets) tax cuts are in order. There is nothing wrong with a several phase rate deduction over the course of a bush presidency to follow targeted cuts. What is needed now is middle class relief(marriage penalty), higher thresholds to pay taxes at all for the working poor and some symbolic accross the board rate reduction as well as raising thresholds for death tax. I would like to see action this week or next by the Fed. The markets are in terrible shape and the world economy will sink along with nasdaq. We have the opposite of a bubble, we have a patient with a collapsed lung, soon 2 collapsed lungs if we are not careful. Save the goose.
