Thanks Kerry and TLC for the input. I tossed some road salt up there this morning though haven't braved it to go out and check yet.

I'll likely be up there in a few hours. Hope I don't make an express way to my desk<GGG>

Kerry,

What an enlightening bit of information for those of us in the cold frozen North. It really would not be helpful at my house, but it is interesting. The slope of the roof on my house makes it very dangerous. When the ice starts melting, my children are not allowed outside anywhere near the house. We have had chunks of ice fall off our house that are about 8 foot long, 5-6 foot wide and 2-3 foot in depth. When these ice formations fall off the house, the entire house shakes. For the sake of understanding I live in an extremely well built older home, that is approximately 4,000 sq ft of living space. When the ice falls we have go straighten the pictures on the walls from the rumbling of the house. The first time this happened, that I recall was quite a few years back, in the middle of the night. Honestly I thought the house was blowing up. I thought it was related to the gas furnace. We had the gas company here at 4:00 in the morning. Only to find the chunks of ice crushing the bushes in the morning. Another time, the ice ripped of all the gutter along both levels of the front of the house, and portions of the roof.

It is snowing again now.....how I love winter!!!
