Yup, and having dealt more than once in my career with counselling for folks with addictions, I can tell you that the alcohol or drugs are simply an after affect, meaning that there is ALWAYS an underlying problem that ALWAYS requires psychiatric help...people don't simply abuse alcohol or drugs because it is a kick, but rather to hide or coverup additional problems in life...I will ask the question again (probably my 10th time): what lead George W to become an alcoholic?

Pat - He could be sober for the entire 4 years and I would still be very worried about his being President. Let's face it, the man (i) is anti-intellectual (he doesn't read books, and speaks with disdain about those who do), (ii) has accomplished nothing in his life to prepare him for this responsibility (and whatever he has accomplished would never have happened but for the connections of his daddy),(iii) is a liar -- he lies regularly while attacking the honor, decency and honesty of others, (iv) has no clue how to lead a country, especially one which has more people who voted for the second place finisher than voted for him, (v) will do anything to stick it to his enemies, which includes democrats, women, gun control advocates, environmentalists and those who have earned what they have without the help of their parents or their parents' friends, and (vi) is a wolf in sheep's clothing - OK, the brain of a sheep, but the personality of a wolf - he sold himself as a uniter who will rise above partisan bickering, but really is just a garden variety conservative who will play partisanship for everything it's worth. All you need to do is look at the tactics he used to win an election he really lost to see what kind of man he is -- someone who will let others do his dirty work while claiming to be above it all himself -- when his hands are so dirty that lye wouldn't clean them off. I can't speak to the reasons for a life of substance abuse, but it is obvious that this guy is in way over his head. It's sad, truly. It's going to be a long and painful 4 years.
