That's an understatement of huge proportion, Greg. Not only doesn't it make sense in terms of the Gorilla Game, but imo it's just bad investing. I called on MCOM in the late 80's, and their efforts towards building a franchise hasn't shown progress in all that time. The question would seem to be how much of his fortune Paul Allen will let them burn before he withdraws support. Their fundamentals and future appear to be dot.com-ish.

Out of curiosity, what technology does Metricomm control that makes you feel they can compete with Qualcomm?

<< Metricom has a product out there that beats everything else on the market.>>

In the sense that it has relatively high data transmission rates for a portable environment, and the price is rather reasonable (last I remember about $75/month unlimited), I guess it does.

<< The trick here is making sure it gets adopted >>

Yup. Thats the trick. It needs to be where I go, and it ain't.

Good product. Limited market. Short window with a national CDMA footprint available from 2 major carriers.

1xRTT should be available nationally in 2002, HDR in 2003.

Not sure where that leaves Metricom.

Me. I never invest in companies that are not profitable.

This is a tiny company, with poor fundamentals and a tough road ahead of it.

Not what this board really examines.

Don't even go where I am.
