("so what i am asking is, have you run a virus scan and have you obtained new virus definitions , yet still receive the positive alert?" )... you haven't run a full system scan. and you haven't said whether you have gotten the new defs from mcafee."Your advice please!! my advice is to do both of the above. there's a good chance that you'll have a much better idea of what you are dealing with if you do these two things."Would you advise I notify McAfee?...I did notify MSFT but never heard from them" forget notify. the plan is to inform yourself. you see the response that you got from microsoft. notifying these companies does next to nothing for you."I don't know if the problem was McAfee alone or McAfee in conjunction with BlackIce" exactly. when my virus scan displayed a positive reaction, in order to determine who, what, where and why, i went to the blackice site and to the symantec site. the blackice message forums gave me the info i needed. there were a ton of posts all asking about the same norton virus alert, so i knew something was amiss. i then went to the symantec site (i gave them 24 hours to get squared away and come up with a fix) and used their knowledge base to search out the alarm i was getting. this was how i learned that symantec had assumed responsibility and issued a new virus definition to reverse the alert. i downloaded the new defs and installed them and the problem went away. you have an unresolved issue. if you are not clear on anything i have written, please ask. maybe i'm only making perfect sense to myself. <g3> good luck :) mark
