Internally: the quarter is in the bag, and customer backlogs are over two years at present production rates, and demand is increasing...Externally: Broadband and optical switching is finally starting to rollout into the field...conclusion: demand driven market will remain for the forseeable future...nobody who knows about this market will be doing anything but buying SDLI/JDSU and holding...if we are lucky, and the MARKET FLU abates in June, then we will be fantastically wealthy...otherwise, we will have to settle for plain wealthy...

Excellent observation!
Why beat expectations by more than necessary (i think inline report is perfect). That makes a lot of sense.
What is more important is forward looking guidance from the company--a week off will not hurt in this regard. It just gets added to the backlogg.

I personally believe the spending slowdown story is way overdone in relation to optical. Only when the companies report earnings will these worries be put to rest.

BTW--did not buy much today but am getting close. Right now Intel is best deal out there, IMHO and that is why I am buying it. JDSU is getting close but only when either the

1. Downward momentum in the Naz stocks comes to a halt
or
2. early next week

Whatever happens first will be my buy signal--to make it a signifantly large holding for me. If we still slide this week, I will buy it next week.
