Semi: I always kind of wondered why you were in here .. do you just like to attempt to torment AMD investor types? Surely not to spread Intel FUD and propaganda.. ;)

Ever visited a tech hardware place like Aces Hardware? I would think that would be much more stimulating for someone who is obviously a techie type.

The point being that if you're big enough, you can ship a buggy PCI controller and say it's a good thing? "Moving technology forward" and all that, like with RDRAM? Sounds like FDIV to me. I always found this gorilla game stuff counterintuitive, in terms of "free market" platitudes anyway.

Cheers, Dan.

Semi,

2001 AMD Estimated Revenue
--------------------------
5.711 Billion

2001 Intel Estimated Revenue
----------------------------
39.416 Billion

The market cap ratio 209/4 = 52 is way out of line with the income ratio 39/6 = 6.5. Even worse, the growth rate for AMD is much higher than INTC, so it looks like AMD is the place to be.

Re: Here are the correct 2001 revenue estimates...

2001 AMD Estimated Revenue ------ 5.711 Billion
2001 Intel Estimated Revenue --- 39.416 Billion

From the same article:

2001 AMD Estimated EPS ------ $2.452
2001 Intel Estimated EPS ---- $1.756

Here is current stock price (market valuation):

AMD Stock Price ----- 4.51 Billion (0.79 times estimated revenue)
Share price is 5.86 times estimated earnings)
INTC Stock Price -- 209.05 Billion (5.30 times estimated revenue)
Share price is 17.7 times estimated earnings)

:-)

semicon, now that you've seen the CORRECT revenue comparison between AMD and Intel, you've inadvertantly pointed out that AMD's price earnings ratio of 5.0 to 5.2 for the full year is LESS than Intel's price to sales ratio of ~6.45

FYI, AMD's price to sales ratio is about 1.08.

In other words, if Intel...
o dropped your salary and every other Intel employee's salary to ZERO,
o stopped investing in manufacturing capacity and R&D,
o stopped all advertising,
o got all their materials and utilities for FREE, and
o stopped paying taxes...

they would still make less profit relative to their share price than AMD.

EDIT - I see several others have pointed out the out-of-whack ratio comparisons. I used diluted shares outstanding which is why my Price to Sales ratio for AMD is a little higher.
