GiantLoop Signs $50M Metro Access Deal With Nortel
Jan. 02, 2001 (Fiber Optics News, Vol. 4, No. 1 via COMTEX) -- Boston-based GiantLoop Network, an enterprise optical networking service provider, has selected Nortel Networks [NT] to supply complete metro DWDM access, enabling GiantLoop Network to offer high-speed services such as storage networking and managed wavelength services.

GiantLoop Network has signed a one-year agreement with Nortel, estimated to be worth $50 million, to purchase metro optical networking systems, including Nortel's OPTera Metro 5200 multiservice platform.

GiantLoop and Nortel will work together to provide optical storage networking (OSN) to Global's 250 customers. OSN extends the distance of storage technologies to provide services such as remote mirroring, disaster recovery, centralized disk-on-demand, business continuity and centralized tape backup.
