Well, we could be, but I suspect it's Barak ratcheting up the rhetoric and seeing just how far Arafat is willing to push this brinksmanship.

Actually, since Arafat could come under enormous pressure from the Arab oil states to not take them all over the brink, this could be Barak sending a bigger message to the rest of the gulf states to get "their boy" under control, or face a potentially more serious regional war.

Arafat is playing with a politically "cornered beast", who's about to lash out. The death of Kahane, followed by the almost certain retaliatory killing of a Fatah leader shows this is getting out of hand.
