You off-set the $30K gain with $30K of losses; but, I don't see how that affects your $87K taxable income.

I believe her name was Suzy Orman. I've just seen a TV ad for her. Apparently, she'll be on the "New Investors" segment all this week. She's written a book, (9 Steps to....) so prepares I'll check her advise out this week-end. The time given her to answer was so short she couldn't explain the thinking behind her strategy.
