Tumbleweed to restructure, cut jobs, sees wider Q4 loss
NEW YORK, Jan 3 (Reuters) - Tumbleweed Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:TMWD), a provider of secure Internet electronic mail services, on Wednesday said that it is planning to cut jobs and sees that fourth quarter 2000 losses will be more than double that of the year-ago period.

The Redwood City, Calif.-based company said that it expects its fourth quarter loss, excluding items, to be between $17 million and $18.1 million, compared with a loss of $7.6 million in the fourth quarter of 1999.

It said that fourth quarter revenues will be between $7.5 million and $8 million, up from $4.54 million in the same period of 1999, but lower than the company had expected. It also said it expects 2001 revenues to grow by between 50 percent and 60 percent over 2000 instead of its previous predictions of 100 percent.

Tumbleweed said it is planning to reduce its workforce by 20 percent and take a one-time restructuring charge in the first quarter of 2001 as it seeks to cut costs and realign its businesses.
