Chic,

Have you read Galbraith's account of '29? It's hard for me not
to see the massive parrallels to today's market, but I may be a little more open minded. "It's different this time" is not part of my vocabulary.

I have read this piece and it is interesting reading - and information we should no doubt understand. But, we should integrate this perspective along with other views and data that we have at our disposal... along with a understanding how the markets have changed from 1929. So while you may believe you're open minded perhaps you're following a very narrow view as presented by Galbraith without considering or incorporating other information that may be available to you. Just a thought.

Chic, It is different every time. Yes i am surprised by the extent of the nasdaq fall but not in cisco's as it relates to nasdaq. No surprise there. But 500 and single digits for csco is an end of the world scenario. It is totally irrational. What do you see that is like 1929? 10% margin,no safety nets?? You read a book once thats all.

"Why don't all you guys take the big chip off your shoulder?
Ok, let me get this straight, Ed is right and I am wrong. I started shorting Crisco at $70 while Ed maintained his buy and hold and has ridiculed everything I've had to say. Notice how he was out in force yesterday to ensure that us bears didn't scare anyone into selling, Crisco also made another 52-week low yesterday. So Crisco has gone from $70 to $33 since I showed up and I'm the idiot, I see.

Last year I was calling for a bottom in Crisco when it hit the single digits and the Naz at 500-700. If I had said Crisco at $33 and Naz 2200 you would have tried to laugh me off the thread anyways. Honestly, did you believe $33 and 2200 were possible? Of course not. $9.xx and 500 are just as impossible as $33 and 2200 were last year.

Those that don't study history are doomed to repeat it, those that study history and ignore its consequences deserve to repeat it. It's your choice, get out of the way or get run over by the market. We haven't seen any selling yet. Have you read Galbraith's account of '29? It's hard for me not to see the massive parrallels to today's market, but I may be a little more open minded. "It's different this time" is not part of my vocabulary."

Open-minded? You sound as "irrationally exhuberant" as the bulls did at nas 5000. What do you know about history at 23 yrs. old? So you made a few good calls recently. Do that consistently over a period of years and i'll be impressed. Otherwise, show a little humility, be thankful for the gains you've made, and by all means if you plan to continue gung-ho on the short side, be sure to bring along a clean pair of briefs. You may need 'em (like today maybe...?)
