OT - I'd like to continue this political discussion, but I realize how off topic it has become (I'm only a lurker here anyway). So, I'm stupid, how do I send a private message to someone on SI?

LOL. Such a tortured analysis. Neither the guy who fills the potholes in the roads, nor the guy who issues tourist visas in Colombia is elected, yet they both work for the government. Therefore, Colombia doesn't have a truly democratic government.

The Electoral College is elected. Each state has its own presidential election, and we vote for the electors, not the presidential candidates. It usually even says so right on the ballot, yet probably 99.9% of people don't read or understand that.

And anybody who attempts to distill the essence and nuances of our great Constitutional system into a one-phrase dictionary definition does a disservice to those who established this great country
