NEW YORK (CNNfn) - On the second trading day of the year the traditional "January effect" has yet to kick in, but analysts say it is coming.

The January phenomenon, which usually leads to a stock market rally at the start of the year, typically comes after year-end tax selling abates and bonus money goes to work in retirement funds, like 401(k) plans and IRAs.
