The greatest Irony of all, is that if they had let Harris do her job as prescribed by law, the recounts would have gone forward.

I smile every time I think of it.

Classic reason you dont legislate from the bench. Pretty arrogant of FSC if you think about it. Laws spend months and even years in legislative committee's with studies of this and that to make sure there are little or no "Un-intended consequences". FSC dismisses them with a day of deliberation. Pretty arrogant.

If they hadn't extended the period for recounts, the election would have been certified on time and the contest period would have started 12 days earlier

attempting to award Gore additional votes from incomplete and untimely recounts;
If there were problems with the recounts, it was because of the Republican machine, specificly Cathy Harris meddling, pausing, sending bogus requirements, and otherwise harasing the recounts. They should have just proceeded as stated under Florida law and as requested by Gore. If the recounts were not to everyone's satisfaction then it was the Republican meddling that was the reason. The Florida Supreme Court was correct to be outraged and to demand that a reasonable effort be made to count all the votes. It was the USSC which was both incompetent and partisan.
