George W's plan to hope for the markets to get hammered before he took office and look to be a hero just got spoiled and Mr. G gets full credit for being dubbed the spoiler.

Why do I think that Greenspan and Clinton had a talk just days prior and just prior to the official transition period? Timing is everything and the newly elected just got some of his wind taken out of his sails.
