rudedog,

re: I have deployed enough Unix systems to say they are a huge pain in the rear to install compared to MSFT clients.

What did you use to "deploy" Unix systems with?

I was more categorical in my formulation than I meant - I thought that would be obvious.

I was talking OEM installation CDs and Windows-CDs bought separate from the computers, not computers with something pre-installed on the harddisk. I know this is not the majority of sold computers, and I didn't mean to talk about cases where stuff works.

I don't know about how you install Linux, but today it is extremely easy to install an OS you don't have a copy of. You just boot a diskette an specify the URL of the OS you want to install. Choose "Server install", let it run for 10-15 minutes and you're done. No license questions, no "please insert CD" questions.
