Steven, I totally understand how in this linear format of message board, a misunderstanding may develop with newbies. This is post #44,693 on the HOME thread. . . meaning that if a newbie were to get "up to speed" here, they would need to go back and read lots of posts. . . probably taking them several solid weeks.. . which is completely impractical. And that is just on THIS board. Some boards have even more posts, due to allowing chatter between useful discussion. And this is equally true on trying to get up to speed on a Raging Bull or a Yahoo board. . .or anywhere else for that matter.

I wanted to change that. So what appealed to me, when deciding on the format for our next HOME, was "threaded navigation with linear reading". The posts are seen in a linear fashion, for quick scanning or skimming, same as here when you hit the "read 10 at a time" key. But you first point to a conference or topic [that's the "threaded navigation" part. And the board has many classifications for discussion, each having various topics for detailed discussion. It allows us to get much further into a specific topic, while giving a break to anyone showing up late, since there are FAR fewer posts per topic. . .and topics are kept up-to-date. . . a topic entitled "When Will the Tech Bubble Burst?" will have long since been moved to the archives, by the moderators, etc., so that the most current topics are always those in the forefront.

And all posts are tucked away as though in a filing cabinet. Granted, it takes some getting used to. . .but I prefer it over sifting through hundreds of posts on each board each night. Posts falling into conferences where you have no interest may go unread. . . for instance, the Off-topic Conference of each board. . . if nothing is addressed to your "attention", why bother reading it if your time is limited? Or you may simply review all posts from today, or all posts marked as "new". Staying caught up keeps things most manageable, but it also requires less effort.

Not to mention that integral into some conferences is a chat room for the most current discussions. . . the difference between spreading the news of the FED rate cut on a board or in a chat room is extreme, when considering how fast the market moved. I was fortunate to have heard a quick blurb on Bloomberg before they went to commercial. . . I guess CNBC waited until after the commercial before covering it. In those 3-4 minutes, many stocks spiked up a good percentage of their total distance.

It sounds as if many of your concerns are aimed at protecting the newbie. This is an honorable pursuit. Fortunately, I believe that we have found the many of the correct solutions for this issue.
