from cbs marketwatch.com : "Wednesday, January 03, 2001 TXN downgraded on slowdown --8:00 am - By Emily Church Anticipating that the "the catalog DSP and analog business are exposed to weakening global demand," analyst Mark Edelstone at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter on Wednesday downgraded shares of Texas Instruments (TXN: news, msgs) to neutral from an outperform rating. While he sees the "wireless end-markets slowly recovering," he says in a note to clients that TXN has the largest DSP and analog portfolio is the largest in the world. He cut his 2001 earnings per share to $1.40 from $1.60. The consensus estimate from analysts for the year is $1.53, according to First Call."

Ibexx, I received 2 emails from MSDW. The first, sent pre-market, was a heads-up that MSDW was lowering their rating on TXN - it's dated Wed, 3 Jan 2001 07:22:13 (PST). This is presumably why TXN opened lower yesterday. The full report was sent later, dated Wed, 3 Jan 2001 14:05:32 (PST).
