'He took a domestic violence position several years ago where he said a woman needs to be dragged by the hair and either threatened with a bat or hit with a bat once in a while,'' Deputy Chief Tim Hefferan told The Union Leader. Women do need to be beat every once in a while.... I think you thought you were being funny. But as a lawyer who deals with victims of domestic violence, I must say that find absolutely nothing humorous in jokes or casual remarks about violence against women. I deal with its reality and devestating aftermaths too often to be able to think it is a fit subject even for a purportedly humorous aside.
