What is common sense, based on experience, cannot fathom the ways of God. Kierkegaard used the idea in "Fear and Trembling": Abraham trusted that God would fulfill His promise (that out of his seed should come many nations) even though He seemed to be taking Isaac away from him, "in virtue of the absurd", that is, because with God "all things are possible". It is absurd because it utterly defies expectation........
