Absolutely not Pat. Warnings season continues for over 3 more weeks. In fact, 30-40% of all the warnings will come this month.

My point is that we're already going to either have a recession, or just skirt one. These cuts, in order to stave off a near recession, should have been in mid-late 2000, ie, reversing the 50 bp raise in June.

In fact, that 50bp raise in 2000 was, as we shall soon see, unnecessary.

Mr. Shobin's point is that he's laying a good foundation for a strong up cycle again, but can't stop what's already been created.

Steve

PS: Yesterday's reaction, while fun, was emotional. I agree with many technicians that in order to determine if we've seen the bottom, we've got to test bottom point again.
Ugly thought, but technically valid.

I agree.

As long as stock price movement goes this way, with fear and gloom, I believe there's a good chance AG will cut the rate at the end of January, but this time only 1/4.

Hi Pat, thanks to you, I bought SDLI at $137 and JDSU at $40 a few days ago. You are the researcher in this area.

Could you also give some insights on NUFO and RMTR, if you have time.

Thank you.
Jeannie

Pat, I hope you are right

"there's a lot of room for upside."

Added at 50.

At least I know who to come after if JDSU tanks

:-)

PS: Alan Murray WSJ/CNBC just said Greenie likely to come
on TV next week and say a couple of kind words about tax-cutting.

About time.....

Not withstanding how the market reacts, there will be much more negative earnings news coming, downsizings, and economic weakness.

Isn't warning season over for now? For those companies with calendar quarters, they would have warned within the first few days of the year.

As for carrier spending, I believe the bar is so low and so much negativism built in --- in addition to carriers historically under-estimating --- there's a lot of room for upside.

Greenspan did not let the global economy slide into recession in 1998 and he's not going to let the US go over the brink now.

I'll be following earnings' CC's as usual, watching for specifics on NG spending versus voice.
