Kayaker, you know Hill is a day late and a dollar short:

"The only bright spot on the horizon is the possibility
of an interest rate cut by the end of January.
"

We've already had a 50BP rate cut

and there may be another 1/2 point by end of Jan. not just .25.

Also Hill left the tax cut out!
And, I will add another one:
How about spending cuts?
I hear Bush is very thrifty:What do you think Guv. spending
cuts will do to out Economy?
If you ask me, I am waiting for anothe bubble.
I may have to sell out of JDSU at $200....

Are you referring to the networking sector or the market as a whole? I've never known any company to wait more than five days after the quarter's end to warn. Perhaps you mean those companies with a Jan. 31 close.

...In 2000, 43 percent of fourth-quarter warnings came after Jan. 1, Hill said....

CORRECTED/Kayaker, I didn't know there was anybody left to warn, vbg!

Let's see,who has already warned;

INTC
MSFT
SUNW
CSCO
T
WCOM
All the SOX
NOK
IBM
All the internuts
LU

etc

anyway, it is already discounted in the market.
I have widely assumed that everybody

except JDSU and GLW of course, vbg,
will miss

Are you talking about the mom and pops?

Yak,

Appreciate you finding and posting that one. That's one of the data point I was mentioning this morning to Pat, but was searching for the supporting link/corroboration. Since you found that one, and I am still working on one more that I read.

In summary, Pat, I've noticed a lot more warnings throughout 2000 that came in a couple of weeks after the close of the previous quarter. I've seen companies warn a WEEK before their earnings announcement.

What's nice to see is a couple of upside announcements today. Wow. Those lucky companies (and stockholders).....
