I doubt it ... there are too many legal difficulties that would ensue.

no way AG would be for turning back the clock on deregulation either ...

Just what I think ... I do know a little bit about how PUCs think

Edit: Of course looking at the stocks -- I might be wrong :-)

i think you may be on to something there! i had a similar thought already...remember, the commercial paper of these utilities is sitting in many MM funds, and is regarded as 'safe'. if they default, the shock to the credit system will indeed be felt.

i just sold my already written off CPN puts at a 130% profit...can't hang on as they're Jans. in any case, i'm happy they did work out after all.

Cynic-

Therefore, they have tried preempt that blow with a pre-bankruptcy- filing-rate-cut! If this speculation is true, whether the Feds' effort will work or not remains to be seen.

I thought about this yesterday and posted on it. Moody's threatened to downgrade the debt on the two utes a couple? of weeks ago.

But, do you know exactly how a rate cut would benefit the debt holders? Can you explain the mechanics of how a rate cut would work to their advantage? Any idea of which entities are holding the paper?

Given that the problem is the nature of the dereg itself (or "restructuring" if you prefer,) I doubt this will fix anything in the long run (if this was the FED's motiviation.)

CY, Let me see if I have your theory correct. If my right hand is bleeding, what I need to do is cut off my left hand and leg so there will be less blood remaining to flow out of my right hand and if that doesn't work, I put a tourniquet around my neck<VBG>
