>> Australia: Optus GPRS open for business

Telecommunications player Cable and Wireless Optus has launched a new mobile communications service in Australia as at December 2000. CWO is the first telco in Australia to launch a commercial mobile service based on the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) platform. GPRS is often referred to as the second generation (2G) mobile service - a precursor to third generation (3G) communications. Paul O'Sullivan, CWO managing director of mobile, says the GPRS platform will make the mobile office a reality.
