In that this is the "Libertarian Discussion Forum", I'll also say that domestic violence is a private, family matter that the gvrnmnt has no business involving itself in. So is it your position that if parents want to beat their children senseless, or do permanent physical damage to them, that is their right and nothing government should do anything about?

I kinda-sorta-mostly agree with you Diana, but the concern is for the extreme. Surely you'd agree that murder, even in the private confines of the home, is a criminal offense deserving of gov't involvement. Shouting at one another is not. The question is where to draw the line. Today's PC mood has it that if the wife clobbers the husband with a frying pan, and then calls the cops, in many places HE will be arrested. In a community not far from me, there is a woman who has had a number of live-in boyfriends, and each of them has stood in front of a judge after a night in jail to explain that there was no violence at all, the girlfriend just got angry and made the accusation. Insofar as anything being open to jokes, I agree with you completely. If someone is offended by it, tough. They should simply quit reading the thread. Keep on speakin' out, jim
