To All, comments on the college football bowl games. Wow, it was a great series of games. I didn't and still do not agree with some of the matchups. Nebraska vs. Northwestern. Gimme a break. Northwestern has academics and cannot compete with a pro program. Oregon State vs. Notre Dame. Though I love to see Notre Dame get slaughtered, Oregon State deserved to play a better opponent. Building a good record while playing the likes of Navy, Army, Rutgers, etc. and a long tradition always gets Notre Dame a much higher rating than they deserve. They were a good team, beating Texas A&M and Purdue and giving Nebraska a run for its money. But they didn't belong in a BCS bowl. Oregon State also got to play some easy Saturdays, but they had to face UCLA, Washington, and Oregon, all of which were tough teams. Only a field goal kept them from an undefeated season.

Other than that, I thought most of the games were superb. Oregon beat Texas, which caused a lot of groans down here. I didn't think that was any surprise. Ditto for Miss St. and A&M, though the weather was such that I'm not sure that game was fair to either team. South Carolina beating Ohio State was the biggest surprise for me. Va. Tech should have played Nebraska and Kansas State or Miami should have played Oregon State.

Washington vs. Purdue turned out fine. Though I root for the Pac 10, I think Purdue was outgunned and showed a lot of guts. And Washington almost blew it when Tuiassusoppo (sp) made a retardo pitch for no reason at all late in the game. This one was fun.

Kansas State looked pretty good, though this was not a strong Tennessee team.

Florida was another team that did not belong in the BCS series. True, they won the SEC, but the SEC was extremely weak this year.

Oklahoma vs. Florida State was a defensive game and I laughed to see the two top Heisman Hypes playing like second string high school quarterbacks. Nothing against either guy, as they are both great athletes. But there is no reason why the stupid trophy always has to go to an offensive player when it was obvious that the defensive teams fought for the national championship. I don't think a defensive player has ever won the thing, which makes it a joke. But OK was tough. If you beat Nebraska, Florida State, Kansas State, twice, Texas and Texas A&M in a year, you deserve the Sears thingy.

Oklahoma was not overrated. Florida State was a bit overrated, everyone giving them too much credit for beating one of the lesser Florida teams of the past few years and taking nothing away for losing to Miami.

And it is fun to look back and remember how Oklahoma State nearly beat the best team in the country, which would have been one of their few wins this year. And how Oregon State, a true powerhouse, almost lost to a Division I team early in the season. Or what have been for Wisconsin, had they not disintegrated with team members losing eligibility.

And it gets everyone thinking about next season. When Penn will finally break out of the Ivy League to win it all. <VBG>
