You're right. I just don't get it. And I'll happily run along not getting it, and my portfolio will continue to appreciate, because the trend is with me. Take a look at a trendline from the beginning of the DOW to today. What do you see over time? It's an upward trend. What does that tell you? Nothing because past performance doesn't guarantee future returns. Well, I agree with you there, but I also think that the likelihood is that the next 10 years will continue to trend upwards. There will be major snafus like 2000, but the long term trend will be upwards. You may not think so, but I'm just glad you aren't managing my money.
