That could be true.
My point is that we may have seen a shift or a turning point. I bet it would been more difficult to get the financing in November/December.
To me that is what is significant...the shift. At this point, so much negativity has been priced into so many stocks.

The other factor is that end user demand has to be there for broadband. IMHO, the demand will still be there.

I also expect a race in spending to buildout faster among the bigger players just so that they can beat out the upstarts in building out networks. This is one theme that will emerge very soon as we start seeing huge deals being announced by the networkers. It will be totally different from what the carriers were publically stating in their budgetting process. Just a gut feeling.

Soon the takeovers of the troubled co's will start and that would mean some spending allocated to network
upgrades gets shifted to new acquisitions.

Cutting capex and buying CLECs by Big ILECs will not create new network.
ICECs or ROBC will have to build this network anyway.
However by taking away competitor for low price will increase
return on investment going forward. They can charge customers
more.
BTW big publicly ILECs will never buy CLECS using cpaex $.
They will buy it using its own shares.
Where did you got this idea of buying using capex $, form
S.Moritz of Street.com........?
Since only half of CLECs is in trouble, they represent only 5% of total US capex.
