The Nasdaq drove the markets up for the last 3 years, it's index components were far from "old and stodgy." Part of my position is that the growth and productivity gains were/are real and effective, but today I don't believe adding TWA to the DJIA will set off another round of business investment. The International and domestic investment psyche has changed...! I suggest the level of Fear is building, and tonights second rate cut of .25% will cause more selling shortly. Today was not exactly what one would expect from a .50% cut. This uncertainty will last for years. We will need a lot of late night comedy...! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Special Report: George W. Bush Unplugged By Rob Allen, Staff Reporter feedback@investorsalley.com I was looking around and found some very interesting quotes made by President-elect Bush. Maybe this is a bit off topic, but hey, he's our next President. And without further ado, here are the quotes (along with some side comments that will hopefully amuse you): Mr. Bush, how do you feel about U.S. imports? "The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country." - George W. Bush Hmmm, I would have thought all, but anyway, how do you feel about the future of this country? "I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy -- but that could change." - Governor George W. Bush on 5/22/98 And what happens if we aren't successful? "If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure." - George W. Bush Wow, I never looked at it like that. And if your plans are successful, what would we be faced with? "We're going to have the best educated American people in the world" - Governor George W. Bush on 9/21/97 Really, I never knew there were multiple countries with "American people". Amazing! Now, what do you feel is your singlemost responsibility in leading this country? "One word sums up the responsibility ... and that one word is 'to be prepared'." - Governor George W. Bush on 12/6/93 What are your plans for government organizations, such as NASA? "For NASA, space is still a high priority." - Governor George W. Bush on 9/5/93 I would have thought with the 'S' in NASA that... Anyway, staying on the subject of space, will we ever live in space? "The human race will enter the solar system." - George W. Bush I could've sworn we were already there! What are your feelings on the environment and the EPA? "It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's impurities in our air and water that are doing it." - Governor George W. Bush Now wouldn't that be pollution? What are your feelings on the relatively low voter turnout for many elections? "A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls." - Governor George W. Bush Thanks for clearing that up. Anything else you'd like to say? "Public speaking is very easy." - Governor George W. Bush to reporters Thanks for sharing that. Anything else you'd like to add on your public speaking skills and the American media? "The American people would not want to know of any misquotes that George Bush may or may not make." - Governor George W. Bush "I stand by all the misstatements that I've made." - Governor George W. Bush to Sam Donaldson on 8/17/93 And finally, is there anything else you'd like to say to the American public? "Illegitimacy is something we should talk about in terms of not having it." - Governor George W. Bush on 5/20/96 Huh???
