John.. I'm not trying to be rude, but did you completely blow off my point about how the Feds currently tax gasoline at 18.4 cents a gallon ALREADY?

A subsidy is, in effect, a reduction of that tax, making the net tax on that fuel .13/gallon....

What's wrong with that?

The bottom line is that there will be all kinds of initial subsidies necessary in order to develop, and bring operational, the required energy resources, primary and alternative, the US needs.

Personally, I'm for nuclear energy... The DC area receives a large percentage of its power from Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant. And I say bury that damn nuclear waste in the salt mines of New Mexico, or in Nevada...

Better yet, put it in impermeable containers, vitrify it, and drop it 7 miles deep into the Marianas trench...

Or even better... hook it up to a Mass Driver lauch sytem that faces east and propel it into the Sun.

All kinds of neat things we can do if you put our collective R&D minds to the effort.

But because US national security is at stake, the US government will have to take the lead.

Regards,

Ron
