Scumbria, <I spent a lot of time in retail outlets before Christmas, and it was quite obvious that Athlon and Duron are dominating that market. I reported on this several weeks ago, and one of my observations has already been confirmed.>

Things must have been different back when I was home in the Washington, D.C., area. There, as I reported, I saw a lot more Intel-based systems on display than AMD-based. And most of the models I was looking for (the kind between $1000 and $1500) were sold out, which didn't make sense to me considering the market slowdown.

I didn't check Circuit City or Best Buy, though. Maybe that's where all of the Athlons and Durons went. I do remember going to the Gateway Country Store in Bethesda, MD. Most of the models on display were based on Pentium III. Isn't Gateway supposed to be a major AMD ally?

<When people get used to using AMD at home, their choices for business platforms may change as well.>

Not while AMD's platform situation is still in disarray.
