T2,

About PC demand. There are tons of issues with why I think there won't be ongoing incremental upside demand. The largest one is that there are no catalysts to drive more purchases.

Consumers already have more than one in their homes. Businesses had huge upgrade cycles last year, and are not putting P4's onto old desktops since they have 600-800 Mhz P3 chips there now.

Sure they're cheap, but until broadband comes into more homes, I don't need a P4 at 1.4 Ghz, or even a 800 Mhz P3 to play Solitare or run MS Word.

The PC industry needs a killer application, like consumer video conference, streaming video/audio, etc, to drive higher performance PC's in a bankable upgrade cycle.

All that takes a broadband infrastructure as the underpinnings of the next leg up (if any), and that's why we own JDSU.

T2,

On your behalf, and because I don't invest by guessing, I contacted some WS friends. In summary of all my DD, here's the thinking on the PC industry "call" for the ST:

The PC Industry continues to see very aggressive pricing and 3-4 weeks of excess inventory in the channels. They think that HWP, AAPL, GTW and CPQ remain at risk to further downward estimate revisions. There are few catalysts to create upside potential for the group.

Hope that helps you. Take care.

Steve
