This software enables the AnyPoint(TM) Phoneline and Wireless Home Network products to become a single home network, enabling it to share files, printers and a single Internet connection. Previously, it was necessary to buy an expensive hardware bridge to connect two networks using different technologies. A wireless home network can now easily be combined with an Ethernet network or one based on the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HPNA) specification. The combined home network offers the capabilities of a single AnyPoint Home Network, including Internet firewall protection, parental control, multi-player gaming and sharing digital music. The AnyPoint Software Bridge will initially be available as a free download for existing AnyPoint Home Network customers at www.intel.com/anypoint in February. The new software will be included as a standard feature in all AnyPoint Home Network products by the end of this year. ``Many of our customers indicated a strong interest in being able to combine two different home networking technologies to form a single network,'' said Dan Sweeney, general manager of Intel's Home Networking Operation. ``They want a solution that allows them to add mobility to their existing wired home network or add the speed of a HPNA or Ethernet network to their wireless network. The AnyPoint Software Bridge allows them to accomplish this.'' The worldwide home networking equipment and residential gateway market is expected to grow from over $600 million in 2000 to over $5.9 billion by 2004, according to recent research by leading market research firm Cahners In-Stat Group.(a) ``With the availability of easy to use, standards based, low cost solutions from vendors such as Intel, the home network is no longer just for the technically advanced user,'' states Mike Wolf, director of Enterprise and Residential Communications for Cahners In-Stat Group. ``This is why we see the home network hardware and residential gateway market growing to over $5.9 billion by 2004.'' The AnyPoint Software Bridge is the latest example in the company's effort to extend the value of the home PC and the Internet by creating a broad range of exciting new products. In addition to the AnyPoint Home Network products, Intel manufactures PC cameras, the Intel® Play(TM) line of PC-enhanced toys, the Intel® Wireless Series family of PC peripherals and the Intel® Pocket Concert(TM) Audio Player. Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products. Additional information about Intel is available at www.intel.com/pressroom.
