I agree but its a mental condition based on what happened to the 98/99 shorts.
I think the danger of shorting is more a case of conviction.
When I short a stock I'm more convinced its going to go down, than I am on a stock I buy expecting it to go up.
Then my ego gets in and stops me from covering because I'm telling myself "I couldn't be that wrong".
When I short a stock now I decide what's the most I'm prepared lose before the transaction. As soon as that loss has arrived I'm out! Gone! Then I move on.
Btw
I learned that lesson from shorting Amzn the first time back in 98.
