FYI - Charles Woodson was a defensive standout, but at Michigan he also played offense and on special teams.

He was, however, primarily a defensive player. Although I will admit that without his special teams play and the odd pass reception, he might not have won the Heisman.

That's the year that the network covering the Big 10 (can't remember which) put on the big push for Woodson to win the Heisman. The volume created through advertising created some incredible visibility for Woodson.

That's the year Peyton Manning was the frontrunner through most of the year until Woodson came on strong.
