I guess now that Washington State has voted out Slade Gorton, I can be a little less cynical about this. After the Salvage Rider garbage, I eventually resigned myself to the idea that if the northwesterners wanted all their federal lands clearcut, it was their problem. Maybe, just maybe, they figured that one out too. I'm sure W's handlers will come up with some cute alliterative slogan to make it all sound good, though. The environmentalist with earwax, or something like that. Cheers, Dan.
