I should have been watching it closer the past
several weeks considering that I've been upbeat on the
euro and the AUD.

Eurozone business confidence historically strong : The impression that eurozone business confidence remains fairly resilient in the face of an impending US and global growth slowdown was underscored earlier today with the release of the European Commission's December business climate indicator. Though the modest monthly rise from 1.21 to 1.24 was nothing to write home about, the point to drive home is that absolute levels remain well above those seen at the start of 1999.
Indeed, the index is still holding around its four year highs. As can be seen from the accompanying chart, business sentiment has ranged around these relatively strong levels since the end of Q1 2000. This confidence measure makes a bit of a contrast to the more widely acclaimed German IFO index, which has fallen more dramatically but, given European growth has always been more resilient outside Germany, the IFO survey's relevance should not be overstated on a pan European basis.
