Kendall, we need your input but I haven't had time to see Time. I also think a bottom is near but it is still titillating and not actually there. We see it but it floats away

Kendall, yes the Time magazine cover could be a good contrarian indicator .... but I interpret it more as "confirmation of the obvious".

Near the market bottom ? I disagree with you and Jenna. This bubble was at least 16 months in the making ... from Oct 1998 through March 2000. We are only in month 10 of the correction.

Don't you find it interesting that the euphoria associated with the surprise, sizeable, long-awaited rate cut lasted only 45 minutes ? It got the S&P back to its 50 dMA and the NASDAQ back to its 20 dMA ... for a grand total of one day.

The combined effects of lower corporate earnings, the inevitable rise in unemployment, bad loan problems, and a weaker dollar have yet to fully conspire against the markets.

I'm guessing DJIA: 9000, S&P 500: 1100, NASDAQ 1800 .... within the next 4 to 6 months. And when you think about it, given everything that's going on, we'll be lucky if things bottom just 15% lower from where they are now.

Regards,
Chris

Finally! This October was different because of the lack of those cover articles.
