I'd say there is both truth and falsehood to what McWhorter says. There is all too much truth. Here in Silicon Gulch, many Vietnamese have gone through schools in black neighborhoods and finally ended up at UC-Berkeley and Stanford University. And there are exceptions to his generalizations among blacks. He himself appears to be one. Clarence Thomas is one. According to one post (on this threaqd, I believe) 30% of blacks are conservative; I would expect them to be exceptions. It's not that they can't; just that all too many won't.
