Yeah, the "popular consensus" loves to try and rationalize every little thing. Kind of like how some in the media initially made a big deal out of the additional 25 basis point decrease in the Discount Rate.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the Fed once again disappointed the masses and didn't cut at the end of January . . . but then in February they performed another intermeeting 50 basis point rate cut ;)
