I hope the idea of a Compact Flash R2 modem is not lost on SNDK,
because the R2 network is fixing to be THE wireless network BREAKOUT in 2001.

Won't multiple vendors work with Metricom on supporting their
network? I think the relationship with Sony will be limited
by Sony's capture of the handheld market share. I have no idea
how the Clie has sold, but it is essentially a Palm knock-off.

I read through the Palm white paper on expansion slots. Their
plans thus far have been to add modules that clip on the back
of the device while the expansion slot is left open. Once
the expansion slot is occupied by a modem the potential for other devices (GPS, Bluetooth,...) is given up. With time it would
make sense to incorporate as much functionality into the guts of
the device and leave expansion slots unoccupied for other add-ons.

Novatel and one other company are supporting wireless data for
Palm and Pocket PC devices. I have no idea how these services
compete with Metricom.
