Jim, quite right about power and value...also, the power/money elite has the ability to take a very long term view...because no matter what happens to share prices and currencies,the bulk of their businesses and property will survive. i have never been a big fan of conspiracy theories, but looking at how the media have e.g. been transformed into a highly sophisticated tool of manipulation (much more subtle and effective than the "Pravda" ever was)and how liberty is slowly but inexorably slipping away, i sometimes wonder. note that a severe financial/economic crisis would likely erode individual freedom even more, as the masses would clamor for sustenance from the state.
