Pat and thread - does anyone have any new thoughts on the likelihood the merger will close? How concerned should we be that the shareholder meetings were postponed a month? A Bloomberg report on 11/28/00 implied that the merger was almost a done deal, and that JDSU would have to sell its Zurich facility. The fact that Corning publicly stated it doesn't oppose the deal is also reassuring. Executives from both JDSU and SDLI have been consistently positive about completion of the deal, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that we'll get some good news at the meeting Tuesday. I'm still very confident that the deal will close, but I am nervous since I've made a significant investment in SDLI, and I think the merged company will be an absolute powerhouse. Pat, I believe you feel SDLI is a tremendous company even without JDSU but I sure would love to get 3.8 JDSU shares for each one of SDLI.

BTW, for long-term investors, I agree with those who believe JDSU is an absolute steal at these levels, and a few years from now anyone who backed up the truck at these levels will be very very happy!
