EL - Consequences of consumer resistance to 3G.

1. British, German and Italian SPs have paid over $80bn for the licenses alone. The consequences of a slow or tepid consumer response will be simply devastating to those SPs concerned and possibly to their bankers as well.

2. We have heard something from NOK and other hopeful W-CDMA suppliers that these suppliers enter into customer number guarantees with the SP as a condition of the contract to supply their equipment.

We discussed this on the thread last month and it was quite a surprise to hear but it went some way to understanding how a Korean SP might be pursuaded to jump ship from cdma2000.

In any event the consequences to the supplier of a tepid customer take up would be a call on the guarantee. Depending on the degree that could be disastrous for the equipment suppliers.

3. The investment community would be hit hard too. The ramifications are awesome. This is supposed to be a main economic driver for the coming decade on which a lot of peoples hopes are riding.

Best regards,

L
