Bland watched Chris Matthews' commentary immediately following Gore's concession speech. Matthews was clearly, clearly, a bitterly disappointed man. His face was ashen, and it was several moments before he could manage to actually look into the camera. When he finally did so, he waxed absolutely rhapsodic about the [at last] human and personal quality of Gore's speech, and immediately wondered "what might have been" had Gore spoken so evidently from the heart during the course of the campaign.

Any viewer with any sense of body language at all could have no doubt that he personally favored Gore in this election. It was palpably self-evident.
