You make several good points about regulated industries in general and electrical utilities in particular.

IMHO, the drop off in service from electrical utilities that are not forced to compete is a small price to pay for the low price that the customer ends up paying for regulated electricity. My argument is that unregulated electricity will end up being much more expensive than regulated electricity because the price will be determined by the value of the product instead of cost plus fixed profit.
