Idn'dat strange? -vbg-

Just finished reading a fairly balanced treatment of Theresa LePore, the butterfly ballot, and the Palm Beach recount - highly recommended.

From the conclusion:

>>She can laugh, a little. But unlike Burton,
she's not comfortable in the limelight, or with
public recognition. And her role in this is far
more complex and problematic. Especially
when people say she cost Gore the election.

"I think I had some responsibility," she said
about the butterfly ballot.

But she was quick to add that voters must
share the blame. "An individual needs to take
responsibility for his actions, regardless of
what those actions might be."

She voted for a full recount last month, but
now she doesn't think hand counting ballots is
a way to settle close elections.

"Any time you interject humans into the
process, objectivity goes out," she said.

She would prefer leaving the counting to the
machines. And what about all those hanging,
dimpled, and pregnant chads?

"Voter error," she said.<<
