They are one of the largest, and relatively to their income, paid the smallest price for the UMTS licenses. Also their debt structure is better than all the other ones. Because they are partly owned by the governement, they have been out of the wild take-over plays of the last years. Back then it seemed too conservative, but now they don't suffer from having paid too high prices and having to much debt.My major concern is that once the problems (most of them with renewing debt in the coming months) starts to be known by the public, the entire group will tank big time. Like always, the good with the bad ones. I hesitate to say this but I think the worst of the capitulation is over for the telecom stock...at least the good ones. DT [Deutsche Tele.} has been in the upper 20's, low 30's since September...so I think the bottoming process is well on its way and the telecoms may be preparing to move up. But of course, if economic conditions worsen, then those stocks could go down more. Its why no one is buying tech in big numbers. It surprises me a little you start to like AMZN. When I saw companies not bigger than the size of my own, with valuations in the hundreds of millions I promised myself never to buy one share in a dotcom. But maybe you are right, after the big shakeout the winners can become real companies with a real income. After a second thought, I think I will never buy them in the future. Well, that was fast...let me just comment by pointing out an old saying on wall street...the time to buy a stock is when that stock and/or the sector is at its most hated. Now at this time, 12 year kids hate AMZN and the net stocks, little old grandmothers hate AMZN and the net stocks, my dog hates AMZN and the net stocks.....just trying to make a point. <g>In our local newspaper last week there was a small article saying that in a public park in Seattle, someone had placed a very big metal sculpture, and now everybody was searching for the artist or group who did this. It seemed so funny. Yes, now I remember it...it looks like something from Stonehedge...it was on tv when I was at the gym. I didn't listen very carefully but I thought it was a joke on Stonehedge..people in Seattle like to make jokes like that....I'll check it out and let you know what it was. But I thick it was not in a park but the woods........the difference being the park is man made but the woods are natural. You now what , Ted, the big battle between Dutch and French speaking Belgians is more or less history. We have a federal state now, with everybody responsible for his own. And surprise, surprise, it's working quite well. I don't say there are no problems any more, but from an explosive situation in the seventies, we are now becoming good neighbours. I always think they should give a better look at our solution to solve these problems in areas like Northern Ireland or Jeruzalem. Yes, you are right.....the N. Irish and the Jews and Palestinians need to see how it works in Belgium. However there is an important difference between you all and those other groups...in Belgium, the Flemish and the French economically are not that different. But in N. Ireland, the Catholics are mostly poor and the Prots are mostly well off. And in Israel/Palestine, the Jews are mostly well off and the Arabs are mostly poor. I have always felt that these holy wars are more about $$$ than God. But my point in the last post was more that the French (at least in France) have to be first ALWAYS! One of the reasons that the French are not as active on the internet as some of the other deveoped countries is because they had there own system (can't remember its name) that was similar to the net but much more limited in its capabilities. Nonetheless, they were expecting the world to go with their system but only recently begrudgingly are beginning to accept the reality. Did you hear about the big fight between Air France and the gov't? The gov't wants the Air France pilots to speak English and French when approaching the French airports....because for better or for worse, English has become the standard language that all pilots use, and by A. France pilots insisting on speaking French, everyone is put into more danger. I don't know if there has been a resolution but I think its an indication of how far the French will take their national pride. And while I can think of many reasons to be proud of the French language, food, and culture, there are times when pride needs to be set aside for the common good. Do you not agree? Sorry, did not mean to go on a rant about the French. Anyways, good to hear from you again. And you are right, in times like this, there is nothing wrong with being in cash. ted
